Park High Honor Society winter clothing & food drive

PHS’s Honor Society President, Kylie Macdonald, said this school year they are heading up a lot of fundraisers and community activities. One of the activities had been ongoing for the past month, that is Winter Clothes Drive.

“Every year we see students without warm clothes at home and no way of getting these supplies, which are especially necessary to have during Montana’s harsh winters.” Kylie said.

“I have connections to several employees at CHP— such as Clinic Director, Stefani Glavan, and know how much they help the community,” said Kylie. “So, we agreed that CHP would be a great place to set up a donation dropbox in the community. The boxes are also inside local area schools, if any parents wish to donate.”

To start off this school year, Kylie said, the organization decided to restart Weekend Food Bags for High Schoolers, which began when she heard from staff and parents that hunger at home was an issue. Presently the Food Resource Center already does weekend food-bags for the middle, intermediate, elementary and Pre-K students, Kylie said.

The PHS Weekend Food Bags and Winter Clothing & Food Drive fundraisers are run by the Park High National Honor Society, comprised of PHS Advisor, Dr. Laurie Nelson-Knuchel, President — Silas Hjortsberg and Vice President — Kylie Macdonald. Kylie said that as chairs for the organization the students and their advisor are reaching out for, and receiving, a lot of help and encouragement from PTO President and CHP Liaison, Chelsey Murphy, and CHP Parent Liaison Supervisor, Amy Clark.

This fundraiser began on October 16th donation boxes set out through Friday, December 15th.

“I am hoping we will get enough clothing donations for any child or adult who needs one, and enough food donations to last through the winter season.“ Kylie said.
