Author Seabring Davis and photographer Lynn Donaldson-Vermillion will present a view—and taste—of the history and evolution of dining at Chico Hot Springs Resort at Livingston’s Elk River Books on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
The Western Kitchen: Seasonal Recipes from Montana’s Chico Hot Springs Resort, is the latest cookbook by Davis, following her High Plains Book Award-winning A Taste of Montana. This time, Davis’ writing is complemented by Donaldson-Vermillion’s full-color photography of Chico’s culinary offerings and candid shots of Chico guests and staff, or as the book describes them, friends and family. The collection also includes a section on Chico’s history.
The event will feature a multi-media presentation of Chico dining, both past and present, as well as a tasting of some of the creations by Chico’s chefs.
Davis has worked in publishing for two decades as an editor and lifestyle writer, focusing on art, architecture, interior design, travel and the culinary arts. She is editor emeritus of Western Art & Architecture and former
editor-in-chief of Big Sky Journal. She is the author of several lifestyle books, including The New Montana Cabin, A Montana Table: Recipes from Chico Hot Springs and A Food Lover’s Guide to Montana. She is also a co-editor of the anthology Unearthing Paradise: Montana Writers in Defense of Greater Yellowstone.
Donaldson-Vermillion is a photojournalist whose work has been seen in National Geographic Traveler, Saveur, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Sunset, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. She is the founder and creative director of the Montana food and travel blog TheLastBestPlates.com, and has provided photography for two other cookbooks, Jay Bentley’s Open Range: Steaks, Chops and More from Big Sky Country and Carole Sullivan’s New Frontier Cooking: Recipes from Montana’s Mustang Kitchen.
The free event will be held upstairs at Elk River Books, 120 N. Main St. in Livingston, and will be followed by a book signing and reception. For more information, call 333-2330.
